Crowley Marine Inc had every part that I ordered for my sometime 1969 Johnson outboard. I was surprised that there was still parts nonetheless available. I surfed the internet for parts and Crowley came upwards, and then I checked to see if they had PayPal because that is the only way I pay on the net. Long story brusque Crowley had PayPal and I have been very satisfied with all my dealings with this company.

Problem fixed: h2o pump required replacement.

Engine was over heating, sounding a constant alarm. Tell tale still working. Engine was only very hot to the impact at acme of head on one side only. Diagnosis was a thermostat wasn't opening on that side. Removed thermostat housing, although difficult to get to, information technology does come off without needing to cut the cowling or lifting the powerhead. A lot of old gunk in the thermostat surface area. Cleaned upwards, Replaced thermostats, refit, problem solved.

Ok. End outcome for parts was great. Stop result for costs was not ideal. I was sent the wrong function, that was ordered and invoiced correctly.....paid the shipping and duties to get it here(Canada)......then was shipped the correct part and had to pay duties a second time and am left with a spare function that I don't need or want. Paid also many fees to get the orders that I placed. Thanks for sending the correct part right abroad though - that was neat. Don't make me pay over again for it though.

Removal of gear case, somewhat difficult because of the screws status, replace waterpump, housing and gaskets using the water pump repair kit (not chrome kit, which does not include all parts needed). It is definitely a possible piece of work to do, peculiarly when referring to the exploded views issued by BRP.

Problem fixed: I was getting a Loftier Temp Alarm when I would button it a bit. This is afterward I had inverse the Water Pump and was getting slap-up pressured flow. So I decided to modify out the temperatures switches (2) and the thermostats (2).

By using Youtube, I was able to attain the repair with medium effort. The thermostats were a little challenging to replace but got information technology done in 1 to 2 hours. The most difficult part of replacing the lower unit seals was getting the old seals out of the unit of measurement. One time done, the new ones went in hands.

I had to remove the water jacket housing at the rear of the motor as gasket was leaking a bit. It has the spring and thermostat in the lower cylinder port. The engine embrace latch prevents piece of cake or any removal. (later engines moved this up to top cylinder). I got it our with difficulty and of class Crowley have the replacement parts. Getting smarter now so taking it to my mechanic for replacement. In the end I don't retrieve the leak warranted going to this extent to repair. Some gasket cement would have done the job. Just live and acquire!

Problem fixed: No water telltale, over heat alarm

This engine had been sitting since 1998, started right upwards merely little water pumping thru, and overheat alarm went off. Pulled lower unit checked pump, it was ok. Figured it may exist the thermostat, pulled outer head and constitute loads of sand, and the thermo itself looked like stone. BTW only broke 1 bolt but not downward and so far then I could drill and remove information technology. Blew information technology out, and so ran water thru it. Replaced thermo, leap, gaskets, pump impeller, as well plugs, fuel pump and replaced a croaky starting gas lever. Runs great!

Engine was overheating. Removed heads and found heads were packed with sand. Cleaned and resealed. Overheating went away on STBD head remained on port. I removed engine to have access to base plate. Found plugged exhaust ports removed plates and fittings and cleaned plugged fittings replaced.

Problem stock-still: No cooling water circulation, gear case oil leaks and rough running.

Unit had age related corrosion in the cooling arrangement water pump housing which besides requiring helicoil repair of corroded bolt/screw holes. Thermostat and housing gaskets replaced as preventative maintenance. Seal degredation in the gear case required a strip and rebuild of the gear example with new seals. At present while I am at it, the old girl from the grade of 75 volition have a carby strip, ultrasonic clean and rebuild to eliminate some age and 'one-time fuel' related contagion of the carby. Sweet. Never overlook preventative maintenance and servicing. Crowley Marines web site IPL and client service got the ball rolling. Easy as. No rush, take your time and do a good job. Safe boating all.

Removed the head plate to access the thermostat. Unfortunately two of the bolts snap off due to salt corrosion. Just used high heat gasket sealer with the gasket. Reassemble and it seems to do the trick. That's why it took so long.

Problem fixed: Poor water pickup. Non much water coming from the tell tail.

Removed gearbox lower leg to replace water pump. Replaced pump and gaskets. Although the gear was left in neutral, I found it difficult re-locating the bulldoze shaft and gear selector into the ability head. Found it slipped in easlily when the engine was turned upside downward and shafts lowered verticall downward. Also removed the frazzle cover outlet assembly and de-clogged the water valley surface area. Note: This motor is susceptable to salt clogging because it is difficult to properly flush the motor with fresh water. "Ear muffs" can't be fitted due to the location of the water pickup. Circulating the h2o in a bucket or tank/drum can be limiting to correct flushing. Also supplant the clogged thermostat which had also suffered from common salt corrosion.

Excellent ordered a water pump repair kit when I opened it information technology was missing the impeller called and they shipped one express delivery. Still working on my motor and volition get parts from Crowley Marine ordered multiple parts so far highly recommend them

Replaced water pump, rebuilt fuel pump and carburetor however have problem will keep trying.

Trouble stock-still: water leak nether cowl

working on cooling system, needed thermostats and covers. had a water leak nether the cowl and caused the spark plugs to rust and the starter to start to drag. Hooked motor upwards to contrary flush with h2o hose and the thermostat cap started leaking. Social club both since i was there and replaced them

Trouble stock-still: cooling arrangement/ minimal water flow

Impeller and thermostat replacement. Cooling system flushing. Several U-tube impeller how-to only many searches to find thermostat replacement for this engine. Johnson repair manual vague regarding replacement protocol. Replacement thermostat materials and gasket provided problem solving information. Transmission provided torque spec'due south.

Trouble fixed: No cooling h2o flow

Installed new water pump housing and impeller. Practiced removal and installation management came with the new water pump housing. That and several cyberspace videos made the task fairly like shooting fish in a barrel. Good to have a second pair of hands and optics to assist with this job. Be careful not to loose the shift linkage grommet when removing it from the shift rod.

Problem fixed: poor h2o period through motor afterwards h2o pump replacement

when you remove the water pump impeller if the vanes are disintegrated to any big caste. (ie) pieces missing. The fragments are most likely up inside the motor. These fragments cannot laissez passer through the h2o restrictors in the lesser of the block. The blocked restrictors limit or totally block the water flow through the motor. The only way to remove the fragments is to back flush them out of the motor. I did this by removing the h2o encompass and the thermostat. And then I ran high pressure water from a hose into the cake at the thermostat opening. I put a v gallon bucket under the motor before I applied the water pressure to be able to come across if anything came out. Sure enough everything missing from the impeller blew out into the saucepan. I reassembled the motor and it had practiced water flow and cooled perfect.

Problem fixed: Cooling system defunct and bottom casing cracked

Removed power unit - stripped out heads and lower unit of measurement. Replaced all gaskets and thermostats and poppet valves, plus hoses, welded lower casing, reassembled. Ran fine.

Problem fixed: Thermostat failed...overheated engine

Removed the head, shaved it (I took it to a machine shop where they have a large belt sander tabular array with diamond sandpaper. Paid them $20 to clean information technology up. It was not warped or annihilation. Just did information technology because), removed the water plate and cleaned upwards contact areas and replaced gasket and thermostat. Supercede some worn parts in the water pump area and installed new impeller.

GREAT! I placed a modest order and the prices were good and shipping was great. I like the fact these are factory parts and non after market place which I have had some bad experiences with in the past. I just placed another order 2 days ago!

Very east job. Just be sure to become the thermostat, seal, & gasket as I did. Afterwards I removed the old one I flushed all the passages with my water hose and so compressed air. Probably could have been done in xx minutes or less simply I don't have to hurry anymore!

Problem fixed: not pumping water

Thermostat was seized, later on irresolute impellers, yet noticed the engine wasnt cooling and afterwards checking the thermostat, problem solved.
